From Complete Beginner to Confident Installer — in Three Days

Most people who come to BE Academy have never touched a CCTV camera in their lives. By the time they leave, they can design a system, install it, configure it, and hand it over to a paying customer. This is what three days of focused, practical training can do.

1

Book Your Place

Choose the free waiting list to register your interest, or pay a £50 priority deposit to secure your seat and guarantee the founding price. We accept a maximum of six delegates per cohort — once those places are taken, the next available date is your only option.

2

Attend Three Days in Manchester

You will spend each day in our workshop going practical hands on experience. Every exercise uses the same equipment and methods employed on professional installations. Your trainer works alongside you — not in front of you.

3

Begin Your First Paid Installation

You will leave with a certificate of completion, a pricing reference guide, and the practical ability to quote and carry out a CCTV installation for a paying customer — with 30 days of personal support available if you need it.

Taught by an active industry professional with real world experience.

There is a significant difference between a trainer who has studied CCTV installation and one who carries it out commercially every week. Your trainer at BE Academy falls firmly into the second category. Every technique covered on this course has been used on actual jobs — residential properties, commercial premises, and everything in between — across Greater Manchester.

This means the knowledge you gain is current, practical, and relevant to what customers actually ask for. You will not spend time on methods that look good in a textbook but rarely appear on a genuine installation job.

Delivered by British Engineers — a security and engineering company that has been operating professionally across Greater Manchester for over a decade.

Three Days. Three Stages. One Clear Outcome.

Each day is structured to build directly on the one before it — starting with the fundamentals of how security systems work and finishing with the business knowledge to turn your new skills into paid work. You do not need any prior experience to begin, and you will not leave with gaps that only become apparent once you are on a real job.

  • Understand how CCTV systems operate in everyday situations — from a four-camera home setup through to a small commercial premises — so that walking into any job feels straightforward rather than unfamiliar
  • Cover the key points of UK law that every installer needs to know before they begin: where cameras can legally be positioned, what signage is required, and how the basic principles of data protection apply to surveillance systems
  • Plan and design a complete system from the ground up — selecting the appropriate cameras, calculating coverage for different spaces, and producing a written quote that reflects the genuine cost of a professional installation
  • By the end of Day 1, you will understand what to order for a job, how to price it accurately, and how to explain the system to a customer in language they can follow
  • Begin the physical side of installation — drilling, mounting cameras, routing cables, and making proper terminations on our training rigs, with your trainer working beside you throughout
  • Develop the techniques that distinguish a professional finish from an amateur attempt: neat cable management, secure fixings, correctly made connections, and a standard of presentation that earns recommendations
  • Build a complete, working CCTV system from an empty wall to a fully operational setup using the same equipment found on commercial jobs
  • You will not watch an installation being done on Day 2. You will carry one out yourself, under guidance, on professional equipment
  • Configure a finished system correctly — setting up recording schedules, motion detection zones, and remote smartphone access in the way a customer expects when they pay for a professional service
  • Work through a series of pre-built fault scenarios covering the problems most commonly encountered on early jobs: loss of image, power supply faults, and network connectivity issues — so that none of them come as a surprise
  • Understand how to price installation work fairly and competitively, write a clear and professional quote, and manage the customer handover conversation in a way that generates referrals rather than just a single transaction
  • Collect your certificate of completion, your job-pricing reference guide, and leave with a clear plan for approaching your first paid installation

By the Time You Leave, You Will Be Able to:

1

Identify and explain the differences between analogue, HD-over-coax, and IP CCTV systems — and advise a customer on which option suits their property and budget

2

Design a complete 4 to 8 camera system for a home or small business, specify the correct equipment, and produce an accurate written quote

3

Mount cameras securely, route and terminate cabling to a professional standard, and test every connection before signing off a job

4

Configure a DVR or NVR from scratch — including recording schedules, motion detection settings, and secure remote viewing on a mobile device

5

Diagnose and resolve the faults that arise most frequently on installation jobs: no picture, power supply failures, and network connectivity problems

6

Write a professional quote, price your labour accurately, and conduct the customer handover conversation in a way that builds long-term trust

Answers to the Questions We Are Asked Most Often

Do I need any experience?
Not at all. This course has been designed specifically for people who have never worked with CCTV or security systems before — and never worked in the security industry. We start from the very beginning, explain everything clearly, and make sure nobody gets left behind. If you are prepared to engage with the training, your starting point is not relevant.
What do I need to bring?
Nothing technical. All installation equipment, tools, and course materials are provided as part of the fee. Wear clothing you are comfortable moving around in — you will be on your feet for much of each day. Light refreshments are included throughout, so there is no need to plan around breaks.
What qualification will I receive?
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from BE Academy, issued by British Engineers.
Is the deposit refundable?
Yes. If you need to cancel your place, your £50 deposit will be returned in full provided you notify us at least two weeks before the course date. If your circumstances change and you would prefer to move to a later cohort rather than cancel entirely, we will accommodate that wherever possible. The deposit is deducted from your total course fee on confirmation — your remaining balance is £395, due before the course begins.
How many delegates attend each course?
Six. That number is fixed and will not be exceeded. The group size is not a marketing point — it is a deliberate operational decision. Six delegates means your trainer can give each person genuine individual attention throughout the day, answer questions properly, and ensure that nobody falls behind without it being noticed. It is the number at which hands-on training of this kind works best.
Can I pay in instalments?
In certain circumstances, yes. Send us a message on WhatsApp or mention it when you fill in the registration form. We will respond within 24 hours and discuss what is possible. We would rather find a workable arrangement than have the fee prevent someone from attending who is otherwise well-suited to the course.
Where does the training take place?
At our workshop in Greater Manchester. The full address, parking details, and travel directions are provided when your booking is confirmed. The venue is accessible by public transport and has parking available within a short walk for those driving.
Will this course help me find work?
We cannot place you in a job, and we will not suggest otherwise. What we can tell you is that you will leave with the practical skills to carry out professional CCTV installations, a certificate that evidences those skills to anyone who asks, and 30 days of direct support as you begin taking on your first jobs. The UK currently has a well-documented shortage of trained security system installers. The demand for qualified people in this field is genuine and consistent. What you do with the training is, ultimately, determined by you — but the foundation this course provides is a solid one.
